Author of the book – the artist-designer, assistant professor of art history faculty of the world culture of St. Petersburg University of Culture and Arts Demshina Anna Y. teaches courses on the history of costume, fashion theory for students of art historians and culture experts. Research work, training for students by combining with the practical activities in the field of fashion.

The combination of artistic and practical experience with scientific interest in the problems of modern fashion is the basis for this book. A number of scientific propositions offered to the reader, were tested by the author on scientific congresses and conferences, in particular the scientific and practical conference «Fashion in the context of culture», taking place annually in St. Petersburg University of Culture and Arts, in the preparation of which the author has been directly involved.

The book focuses on modern scientific approaches to studying the phenomena of fashion, provides an analysis of fashion trends in the second half of the twentieth early twenty-first century, in the context of the dynamics of the culture of the period investigated, determined by factors affecting the formation of any fashion trends. The effect on the fashion culture change associated with the declaration of a transition to a postindustrial society, the impact of the development of the fashion industry, generation and dissemination of global fashion trends, the dynamics of the presentation of the body in culture and fashion. The role of fashion in the design of the visual component of modern culture, both based on the search for harmony between the global and local, popular and elitist, Futurism and retrospectivist, based on research by both foreign and Russia's fashion practices.

The book is offered to all interested in the problems of contemporary fashion, culture and art, researchers, designers, fashion industry professionals, students of profile educational institutions.
